Skagit Soils Inc. Composting Facility is a member of the United States Composting Council
and their Seal of Testing Assurance Program.
The agriculturally diverse Skagit Valley, along with the century-old tradition of family farms, weekend farmers, and home gardeners, is part of what makes our local landscape so vibrant and beautiful. It also means that in any given year, this valley creates tons of green waste – in fact, Skagit Soils processed nearly 14,000 tons of green waste in 2020!
At Skagit Soils, we’re very proud of our long-standing commitment to sustainability. By collecting and processing green waste into organically complete landscaping and agricultural products, we’re making sure that what comes from the land goes back to the land. Like all of our other recycling endeavors, we strive to create a sustainability circle with each product we touch.
What can you bring us?
Green Waste: Grass clippings, leaves, brush, prunings, branches and small stumps. Size limitations are under 10′ in length and under 2′ in diameter. *Note: Do not mix in any non-organics like plastic bags, flower pots, labels or weed barrier cloth. Manufactured lumber is not accepted.
Food Waste: Meat, poultry, fish, shellfish and bones, eggs and dairy products, table scraps and plate scrapings, fruits and vegetables, bread, dough, pasta and grains, coffee grounds, filters and tea bags (without staples), kitchen paper towels, uncoated paper take-out containers, pizza delivery boxes, paper napkins, waxed cardboard and paper, and uncoated paper plates and cups.
*Note: We no longer accept compostable plastics, including Bio-bags, and compostable cups, plates or utensils. These materials do not compost as advertised and end up contaminating our products.
